We got a great new idea this year from the Gerrells. We started a new tradition of the whole family sleeping by the Christmas tree one night before Christmas comes. The kids of course were so excited for this. We set up the blankets, pillows and pack n play for Madelyn and put "The Polar Express" in to watch. I wasn't sure how this new tradition would pan out....especially considering Madelyn was in the midst of getting over croup. Everybody snuggled in for the movie - except Madelyn. She only wanted to use the air mattress as her own personal trampoline. While the rest of us snuggled under the blankets Madelyn spent an hour and a half jumping over, under and ontop of all of us! She thought it was the best ever!! Apparently the croup was not going to slow her down one bit. Luckily Collin and Ella were pretty accepting of her craziness. After the movie got done, it was time for sleeping - the real test! Collin and Ella settled in pretty quickly. Madelyn on the other hand - like croup is famous for - started going downhill as nighttime approached. She started coughing and standing up in her pack n play and saing "hurt, hurt"....or "upstairs". After a little bit of her begging for her crib and the other two kids begging for her to be quiet, mommy retired upstairs with Madelyn and daddy stayed down with the other two. Madelyn had a rough night breathing and was up every hour. One of the air mattresses deflated and daddy and Ella ended up on the couch. When that wasn't comfortable they snuggled in with Collin. Around 6am I came back downstairs so I could wake up with them. Matt moved back to the couch so I could get some snuggle time. Around 6:30 Collin and Ella were up!! So not the best night's sleep (for mom & dad anyway - Collin and Ella thought it was great), but lots of good memories anyway!! The kids are looking forward to next year already. Hopefully we'll have a better run at it!! Thanks Kelly for the great idea - it was so much fun to just take in the spirit of the season!! My favorite time of year.
